Radosław Kurek
Since winning the Bridget Doolan Prize for the best performance of a work by W. A. Mozart at the 2012 Dublin International Piano Competition and the 15th International Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, in 2008 (together with cellist Georgiy Lomakov), Radosław Kurek has been diligently expanding his repertoire. He continually refines his skills in chamber music interpretation, sharing his artistic sensitivity with audiences through carefully curated solo recitals that span from classical to contemporary works.
Kurek’s strength as an artist lies in his exceptional flexibility when collaborating with other musicians, making him a highly sought-after partner in chamber music. His numerous musical collaborations have resulted in recordings for prestigious labels such as GENUINE Classics, Bayerischer Rundfunk, ANAGRAM, the Chopin Institute, Sarton, Dux, Soliton, and BeArTon.
He has participated in many prestigious musical events, performing as both a soloist and chamber musician in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Japan, Egypt, the USA, and numerous cities in Poland. His performances have graced renowned venues such as Malmö Live Konserthus, Gamle Logen Concert Hall in Oslo, Auditorium Augustianum in the Vatican, Festsaal in Vienna, Auditorium al Duomo in Florence, as well as the halls of the National, Gorzów, Koszalin, Pomeranian, Kraków, Baltic, Warmian-Masurian, Wrocław, and Łódź Philharmonics, among others. He has also performed at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s headquarters in Katowice, and the Grand Theatre – National Opera. As a soloist, Kurek has performed with several distinguished orchestras, including the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, Wrocław Philharmonic, Pomeranian Philharmonic, Gorzów Philharmonic, Koszalin Philharmonic, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Orchestra of the Capital Royal City of Krakow “Sinfonietta Cracovia”, and Capella Bydgostiensis. He has worked under the baton of renowned conductors such as Dirk Brossé, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jose Maria Florêncio, Michał Nesterowicz, Kai Bumann, and Jakub Chrenowicz. He has also collaborated with prominent artists such as Jadwiga Rappé, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Roman Jabłoński, and Jadwiga Kotnowska, as well as Patrick Doyle, Robert Kabara, Wiesław Kwaśny, Agata Zubel, Bartosz Koziak, Magdalena Bojanowicz-Koziak, Mariusz Godlewski, Marcin Zdunik, Mariusz Patyra, and the Lutosławski Quartet. Kurek has been a frequent guest at prestigious festivals, including Chopin and His Europe, the Witold Lutosławski “Chain” Festival, the “Trzy-Czte-Ry” Festival, Chopin in the Colours of Autumn, Music on the Peaks, the Karol Szymanowski Music Days Festival, the Gdańsk Piano Autumn, and the Gdańsk Music Festival.
He served as the official pianist for the International W. Lutosławski Cello Competition in Warsaw (2018), where he received a special distinction for his performance as a pianist, and for the International K. Szymanowski Competition in Katowice (2018), where he was awarded the prize for the best pianist-chamber musician. In addition to these accolades, Kurek has participated in and won numerous prizes and awards at competitions as a soloist and chamber pianist, including in Indianapolis, Geneva, Munich, Terni, Shumen, Narva, Florence, Warsaw, Łódź, Wrocław, and Katowice.
Radosław Kurek graduated with distinction from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music In Gdańsk, where he studied piano under the guidance of Prof. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, later serving as her assistant from 2008 to 2009. Since the autumn of 2009, he has been a lecturer at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, where he now holds the position of Professor. In 2014, Kurek earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree, followed by habilitation in 2019.
